Goodbye Lucy
The thing about human beings is that they often make you feel worse than you already do. On the other hand, dogs usually make you feel much better. And the better the dog, the better you feel. Let's just say that Lucy was a very good dog.
The cutest puppy I ever saw.
The absolute cutest.
Monte didn't know what to think of her at first, but I couldn't keep my hands off her.
That one marble in her head made it really hard to pottie train her. But did I mention how cute she was?
One day she grew these things called legs.
Monte started to come around.
And soon she began to follow the ways of the Dark Lord.
Loved the sun.
Loved her brother.
Loved her naps.
Sweetest dog you would ever meet.
The sweetest.
When we lost Monte, I held him in my arms and whispered in his ear the only words that came into my mind... "You're a good boy. You're a good boy. You're a good boy."
When it was Lucy's turn, I held her in my arms and whispered in her ear... "You're a good girl. You're a good girl. You're a good girl."
And she always made me feel better, right up until they day she left.
Goodbye good girl.

Oh Paul. I have walked in those shoes and they are horrible. The only time my family has ever seen me truly sob...gut wrenching sobs...is when we lost our Tucker.
I am so sorry. Please don't think getting a new pup is trying to replace her....no other pup can. But, another one can bring you the same kind of unconditional love that those before them did. With its own quirky ways of course ;-)
Honestly....we need them more than they need us. I mean, do you really have any friends that actually WANT to lick your face when your breath is at its worst? Only a four legged friend lives for that purpose alone.

i'm truly sorry.
we lost our pup last month and i too could only hold her and tell her how much i loved her and how good she was. i thanked her for all that she meant to me and how she was a godsend to me when i needed it over the years. she'll always be a part of me since she touched my soul.
i'm sure things are rather similar for you and i'm sorry for your significant loss.

Paul,
I am so sorry for your loss. We have 3 adult boxers & 2 puppies (looking for homes!). I don't know what I'll do when they start to go.
As my 4 yo niece so wisely observed in the middle of church one Sunday, "dog is GOD spelled backward!" They have a certain insight into our soul.
HUGS to you & my deepest sympathies!

Sorry to hear this, Paul. This is an absolutely beautiful tribute, and you've captured the spirit of dogginess perfectly.
My cocker spaniel Munson is a treasure, and this post reminded me of just how much joy our pups bring to our lives.
So thank you, and Lucy, for that.

Thanks for posting...as hard as it probably was.
We have 2 boxers that we had to leave in the States while we are here in Japan, and in pains me DAILY to think something might happen while we are gone.
Boxers are fantastic and YES they make the cutest pups...and the biggest messes!
Sending love to Lucy.
Thanks,
Deeds
